If you want to rent designer bags and you’re trying to decide between Vivrelle vs Switch, you’re asking exactly the right question because they’re more different than they first appear. Both give you access to authenticated designer handbags and jewelry for a monthly fee. Both carry similar brands. But how these designer bag rental companies work day to day is genuinely different, and which one is right for you comes down almost entirely to how you plan to use it. I currently have active memberships with both. I’ve been back on Vivrelle for two months and have been a Switch member for longer. I’m writing this as someone who owns a lot of designer bags and uses both services professionally as a fashion editor, which means I have a specific and demanding perspective on what works and what doesn’t. The numbers tell the story better than anything else: through Switch I’ve rented 29 items with a combined retail value of $171,360 this year. Through Vivrelle in two months I’ve rented $7,000 worth of pieces, which projects to around $42,000 for the year. That’s nearly three times more value and variety from Switch, and the unlimited swap model is entirely why.

I have active memberships with both Vivrelle and Switch and have been renting designer bags through membership services for several years. With over 100 designer bags in my personal collection I bring a genuine eye for quality and condition to every rental I receive. As a fashion editor and Revolve ambassador I handle and style designer pieces regularly, which means my assessment of how these services fit into a real content and event schedule comes from direct professional experience. Vivrelle vs Switch at a glance

Before getting into the detail, here’s the most important difference between the two services for anyone looking to rent designer bags.

  1. Switch allows unlimited swaps. You can return a bag and get a new one as many times as you want within your membership.
  2. Vivrelle works on a monthly cycle. You borrow one piece at a time and can only swap it once per cycle, meaning you’re essentially locked into one bag per month.

That single difference shapes everything else about how the twodesigner purse rental services feel to use, and for me personally it’s the deciding factor.

Both services also include designer jewelry in their memberships, so you can rent pieces from brands including Van Cleef, Cartier and more alongside your bags.

Join Switch vs Vivrelle designer bag rental membership tiers and pricing

Switch has 2 tiers, Core and Select, with 4 membership plans ranging from $59 to $221 per month. Core pieces have an average retail value of $1,000 and Select pieces average $4,000. Annual plans save 25% and include $180 purchase credit. I have the Select plan, as I like access to higher value pieces like Chanel flap bags and Lady Dior. Vivrelle has 4 membership tiers. Classique is $139 per month for one item up to $4,000 retail value and is the membership I have. Couture is $239 per month for full closet access. Classique+ is $249 per month for two items from the Classique closet. Couture+ is $339 per month for two items with full closet access. There is a 3 month minimum commitment. At the entry level Switch is more affordable. At the higher tiers the pricing becomes more comparable depending on what access you need.

What I’ve rented and how the bags arrived

In my two months back on Vivrelle I’ve rented the Dior Saddle Bag and a green crystal Prada bag. Both arrived in excellent condition, well packaged and accurately represented in the listing photos. The rental experience itself was smooth and the bags were genuinely beautiful pieces I was excited to carry.

From Switch I’ve rented across a wider range of styles over a longer period and the experience has been consistently good. Bag condition, packaging and delivery have all been reliable.

Both memberships also give you access to designer jewelry which is worth factoring into the value calculation. Renting a Van Cleef necklace or earrings for an event through your existing membership rather than buying is one of the most underrated perks of both services.

When it comes to the condition and quality of the actual rental experience, both services are comparable. Neither has disappointed me on that front.

The real difference: unlimited swaps vs monthly cycles

This is where the two services diverge completely and where your own lifestyle determines which one works for you when you rent designer bags.

As a fashion editor I’m constantly shooting content, attending events and writing articles that require different pieces for different occasions. A bag that works for one shoot doesn’t necessarily work for the next. And bag brands, styles, and color trends are constantly changing. The ability to swap as often as I want with Switch means the service genuinely keeps up with my schedule, editorial calendar and trends, rather than me having to plan my entire month around one bag choice.

With Vivrelle’s monthly cycle model you’re committing to one piece for essentially a full month. For most people that’s completely reasonable and actually encourages you to really use and appreciate a piece before moving on. But if your lifestyle involves a lot of events, content creation or styling work, that limitation becomes genuinely frustrating. I found myself holding a beautiful bag that was perfect for one event but not right for the next one, and having no flexibility to change it.

The unlimited swap model at Switch isn’t just a nice to have for me. It’s the difference between a service that works for my life and one that doesn’t.

Vivrelle vs Switch: Vivrelle perks and extras

Where Vivrelle does offer something Switch doesn’t is in their member perks program. Vivrelle members get access to discounts at partner brands and retailers, plus styling ideas and outfit inspiration through their Vivrelle x Revolve collaboration and other content.

For someone newer to styling or looking for outfit inspiration these extras are genuinely valuable. For me personally, as a fashion editor and Revolve ambassador, styling is my area of expertise rather than a service I’m looking for from a bag rental platform. But if you’d find outfit ideas and retail discounts useful alongside your rental membership, Vivrelle’s perks program adds real value that Switch doesn’t currently match.

Vivrelle also offers stylist appointments in person or via FaceTime, which is a lovely touch for anyone who wants a more curated and supported experience.

Vivrelle vs Join Switch Availability

Availability has historically been the main criticism of Vivrelle when it comes to renting designer bags from them. In my earlier experience with the platform I found very little of my wishlist in stock which led me to cancel my membership. Returning two months ago I’ve noticed a genuine improvement. The Dior Saddle Bag and Prada pieces I rented were available without a long wait and the overall selection felt stronger than I remembered. To give you an idea, there are currently 10 pieces of the 55 on my wishlist available

Switch availability has been consistently good in my experience though popular styles in popular colors can still be competitive.

The best tip for both platforms is to build a wishlist and favorite as many items that you like as possible, to have a better chance of something being available. Then when you’re ready to order, use the ‘Available Now’ filter to quickly find what’s in stock and ready to ship.

Which is better for renting designer bags: Vivrelle or Switch?

For most people who want to rent designer bags and hold one beautiful piece for a month and really enjoy it, Vivrelle is a great option. The rental experience is smooth, the bag quality is excellent, and the member perks add genuine value. The Couture tier gives you access to a seriously impressive closet of luxury pieces.

For anyone with a busy schedule, a content creation practice, a lot of events or simply a preference for variety, Switch is the stronger choice. The unlimited swap model is the most meaningful differentiator in this space and it genuinely changes how useful the service is in day to day life.

My personal approach is to use Switch as my primary service because of the unlimited swaps, and Vivrelle when there’s a specific piece in their closet I want that Switch doesn’t carry. Having both memberships allows me to have two pieces at a time and gives me the widest possible access to designer bags and jewelry, which for my work makes sense. For most people one service is enough, and I’d personally start with Switch.

Rent designer bags: your questions answered

Is Vivrelle or Switch better for renting designer bags?

It depends on how you plan to use it. Switch is better if you want unlimited swaps and maximum flexibility since you can return and swap pieces as often as you want. Vivrelle is better if you’re happy holding one piece per month and want access to member perks including retail discounts and stylist appointments. I currently use both and favor Switch for everyday use because of the unlimited swap feature.

How much does it cost to rent designer bags on Switch vs Vivrelle?

Switch starts at $59 per month for Core membership. Vivrelle starts at $139 per month for Classique membership with a 3 month minimum commitment. At the entry level Switch is significantly more affordable. Use code DawesEve22J for $50 purchase credit on Switch and code EVEDAWES for your first month free on Vivrelle.

Can you swap bags every week when you rent designer bags on Switch?

Yes. Switch allows unlimited swaps so you can return a bag and request a new one as often as you like within your membership. This makes it significantly more flexible than Vivrelle which operates on a monthly swap cycle.

Does Vivrelle have better designer bags than Switch?

Both services carry very similar brand selections including Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Prada and more. The difference is not in the brands available but in how the membership works. Vivrelle has a slight edge in member extras like styling support and retail partner discounts. Switch has the edge in flexibility with unlimited swaps.

Are the bags in good condition on both services?

In my experience with both services the bags arrive in excellent condition, well packaged and accurately represented in listing photos. Both platforms authenticate every piece and cover standard wear and tear. I’ve had no condition issues with either service.

Can you buy bags you rent on Vivrelle or Switch?

Yes, both services allow you to purchase pieces you’ve rented at a member discount. With Vivrelle a portion of your monthly membership fees goes toward the purchase price over time. Both services offer member pricing that is below what you’d pay retail or on the open resale market.
