Especially if you’re petite like me as the higher waist line tends to have a leg-lengthening effect. High waisted pants outfits are one of those retro styles you don’t really have to worry about going out of style if you invest in a classic cut and neutral color. Making women’s high rise trousers a great wardrobe staple that are easy to add your own personal style to and style so many different ways. Yes, high waisted pants and jeans are very much in style. This trend has been going for quite a while and was seen at Jonathan Anderson, Loewe, Alaïa, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Rick Owens and Saint Laurent’s most recent runway shows.
How to style high waisted pants and high-waisted jeans
I’m going to share lots of high rise pants outfit ideas with you that are versatile and can be styled in many different ways to create a variety of looks from casual to glam, summer to winter. So that if you do buy a pair you’re not stuck for ideas on how to style them. Whether your style’s more classic or you’re looking for a way to put a modern take on them.
1. The outfit for all seasons: Bodysuit + high-waisted pants
This is such a versatile outfit that works with both trousers and jeans, long sleeve to strapless bodysuits. I like the proportions and balance a bodysuit gives to high rise wide-leg pants. You can add a statement belt to add interest, your own personal style and really show off the high waisted pants waistline.
2. Smart casual | Bodysuit + blazer
Adding a blazer to the above outfit idea is an easy way to make the outfit smarter. It’s such a classic look whether it’s a matching pants suit or high waisted pants outfit with a contrasting color blazer.
If you’re wearing a pair or wide leg high-rise pants, consider a cropped blazer. As a longer length, oversized blazer can make you look like you’re drowning in fabric. And Vice versa, if your pants are more fitted such as high rise skinny jeans, a looser, longer blazer helps to balance out your entire look.

For a preppy, country club aesthetic, you can always tie a sweater over your shoulders instead of a blazer. I recommend draping rather than actually tying the arms of your sweater so you don’t stretch them out. I tend to prefer styling crop tops with high-waisted style pants than low-rise jeans or pants as it shows less skin, covers my belly button and looks a little more elegant.

A button down shirt is something most of us already have in out wardrobe, so doesn’t involve spending more money. Don’t get stuck in a rut, there’s more than one way to style a button down shirt: tucked in, half tuck, knotted, or cropped version. I tend to like this look belted to show off the cinched high waist.
7. Style with the sheer fashion trend
Combine 2 fashion trends together with a sheer top and high waisted pants. If you’re wanting a less sexy look than a sheer top and bralette, I really like long sleeve, sheer lace tops with a camisole or bodysuit underneath to keep the look more elegant and to give more coverage.

For everyday wear for winter, a sweater of any length works well with these trousers. I personally prefer a cropped sweater or sweatshirt with high waisted pants so that you’re not hiding the waist line. However, if you’re doing a longer length you could always do a half or full tuck into your pants. Just be mindful of how much bulk that creates though.

I also love styling high waisted pants with cute, cropped cardigans for a retro, chic look. I tend to look for either cozy fabrics in pretty colors or luxe details like pearl, crystal or gold buttons to keep it looking for fashion forward and less dowdy.

For a timeless classic high rise pants outfit, a great way to wear this is to style either pants or a pair of jeans with a simple white t-shirt and then layer for whatever’s suitable for the weather e.g. leather jacket, blazer, long coat, denim jacket over the top.
Again, when it comes to creating balance and for a more flattering look, if you’re wearing wide leg or boyfriend jeans go for a more fitted tee, if your pants are slimmer fit, go for a looser t-shirt.

For an edgier high waisted jeans outfit for casual days swap out your plain tee for a graphic tee. Add boots and gold jewelry to complete your look. The type of boots you wear and whether you wear them under or over your pants will depend on the cut of your pants e.g. ankle boots tend to go better under straight leg jeans than over.
