Wellington boots AKA rain boots were all over Chanels FW2022-2023 runway show & is the most practical trend this season
Rubber rain boots and fashion? I’d never have put the 3 words in the same sentence either but thanks to Chanel FW2223 rain boots are set to be a big boot trend for Fall/Winter 2022-2023. Knee high Wellies AKA Wellington boots adorned with the iconic CC logo were all over Chanel. As well as Bottega Veneta, The Row, Valentino and JW Anderson fashion shows and I’m not mad about it. A boot trend that offers both function and fashion on rainy days, no wonder it’s popular. My Hunter boots are always out when I’m back in the UK for Winter but being in Vegas most of the time there’s not much call for rain boots.

So if you live somewhere wet or just love this effortless, cool-girl trend, these are the best rubber boots I found after scrolling through hundreds of them.

Shop the rain boot trend
Hunter boots will always be a classic brand and Kate Moss favorite. The easiest way to get the Chanel inspired trend is to wear the Chanel rain boots in cream, black or khaki. However, if you don’t want to drip $1K plus on a pair of Wellies, there are lots of other more affordable options that aren’t designer.
Including some pretty pink rain boots with a cute low heel, fresh white knee high boots for under $40 and bright red Hunter rain boots. There’s also a super cute hot pink pair by Salvatore Ferragamo if you’re looking for designer rubber boots that are on sale for under $300 (was $630).
So grab a pair of knee-high socks and Wellington boots and give this effortless fashion trend a go.
Are Wellington boots fashionable?
Bad taste or fashion? Frumpy or functional? Thanks to Chanel, rain boots are back in fashion this Fall/Winter. While they wouldn’t normally be top of my boot trend picks, the styling on these is everything. What you wear with them is how you take them from the farm to cool girl chic.
With high-low dressing becoming more and more popular, people are investing in styles that offer both fashion and function like rain boots.

…the trend is going from strength to strength (head of womenswear at Matchesfashion, Cassie Smart) who has increased the retailer’s order for rubber rain boots by 130% this autumn.

How to style rain boots
Rubber boots aren’t just for the countryside and farm. This Fall/Winter trend was styled in so many different ways on the runways.
Take styling inspiration from Chanel and style them with tweed jackets and knits. For a more indie vibe wear them with over the knee socks and mini skirts or denim shorts.
For everyday comfort through them on over leggings or skinny jeans and a sweater or sweater dress. On the opposite end of the style spectrum, wear them with sequin dresses as seen at Bottega Veneta for a totally juxtapositioned look.

Why do Brits call rain boots Wellies
Wellington rain boots, or “Wellies” are named for their inventor, Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington…who asked his shoemaker to modify his riding boots…comfortable for riding yet stylish enough for social settings.

I’d totally jump on the rain boot trend and put my Hunter boots to use if I was headed back to London for the Winter. Instead I’m stocking up on thigh high and knee high boots but tag me @glamourandgains in your #rainboots pics so I can see yours.
