Love it or hate it | The Balenciaga City bag is back as the Neo Classic & 1 of the trending styles for 2022
Balenciaga City bags (aka the Motorcycle bag) have been around for nearly 2 decades and are back reimagined as the Neo Classic City bag in so many colors and sizes. It can get a bit confusing as there’s the Neo Classic, Neo Classic City, Balneciaga Blackout Cuty and Neo Cagole City handbag. The Neo Classic City and Neo Classic handbag are both the same and refer to the reinvented Balenciaga City bag with a more triangular shape due to its tapered top. It’s just that different sites call them different things.

The Neo Cagole City bag is less structured with a braided leather handle and a heart-shaped mirror charm. The original Motorcycle City Bag is rectangular and less structured. The Balenciaga Moto, City and Balenciaga Neo Classic bag are one of those designer handbags you either love or hate. Some people love the edgy, rock vibes the studs give, others prefer the more low key perforated Balenciaga blackout city bag which has no hardware.

My vibe is more classic and glam than edgy so I’ve personally never really loved the silver studs which are more grungy. Although I could be swayed into the rhinestone studs. I prefer the no hardware look of the Balenciaga blackout city bag as it means it goes with everything and I don’t have to worry about whether I’m wearing silver or gold or the more structured top handle Neo Classic.

Why are the Balenciaga City Bags and Neo Classic so popular
It started back in 2001 when they were seen on the arms of so many IT girls and everyone then wanted one. There’s so many reasons to love the Balenciaga city bag especially the Neo Classic. Here’s why:
- The Balenciaga City bag and Neo Classic comes in so many different colors.
- It also comes in so many different sizes from the cutest Neo Classic super nano handbag (4.5 x 2.9 x 1.9″) to the Neo Classic large (21.1 x 113.3 x9.4″).
- There’s a few materials and textures to choose from such as grained calfskin, embossed croc and metallic.
- There are now sparkly rhinestone options where rhinestones replace the classic stud hardware.
- The Neo Classic comes in so many colors such as the mini which comes in 9 colors.

Here’s why I like this Balenciaga shoulder and top handle bag in this neutral color and some cool features of this mini perforated calfskin Balenciaga city bag.
This past fall, Balenciaga made a very smart, timely move and re-released a new and improved Moto Bag, renaming it the City Bag.

What’s the difference between the original Baleciaga City Bag and New Neo Classic Bag?
In 2021, Balenciaga updated the shape of their classic city bag and came out with the new Balenciaga Neo Classic which has a more tapered shape. Instead of being a rectangular shape, the Neo classic has a tapered top which creates more of a pyramid shape. It’s more structured and has a classic top handle shape.

Here’s the best Neo Cagole City handbags, Neo Classic City mini satchel bags, Le Cagole leather shoulder bags, Neo Cagole City handbags and leather totes. In the colors to wear this season in super nano, XS, mini, small, medium and large sizes with and without hardware.
I think the Balenciaga mini city bag is my personal favorite as it’s big enough to fit my iPhone but small enough to still be good for day or night.
